Their story
Chef Molly McDonough uses the freshest ingredients possible, many locally sourced, to achieve the flavors and presentations that make dining at Molly’s a satisfying experience. The bar program uses freshly squeezed juices and high-quality spirits to make delicious cocktails that complement the food. Focusing on a small menu ensures that great care is taken with every dish.
Husband and wife team Ben Johnson and Molly McDonough met in college in New York. They married eight years later in Los Angeles. Molly worked under Dahlia Narvaez and Nancy Silverton as a pastry sous chef at Mozza Osteria and Pizzeria before leaving Los Angeles in 2013 to travel and play music with her husband. After exploring the country, they decided to spend a winter in Ben’s hometown of Mount Carroll and record an album. By the time their album, “Submarines In Space,” was finished, they had decided to stay in Mount Carroll and open Molly’s Kitchen and Bar. The restaurant opened in July 2014, and Molly and Ben have been going strong ever since.
