Details

The second Lincoln Highway Mural in Rochelle is displayed on the wall of the Trans World Plastic Films, Inc. building located 150 North 15th Street Rochelle’s first mural was part of the original pilot program for this series of murals that feature 35 large scale hand-painted murals located in over two dozen communities along the 179-mile Illinois byway corridor.

It was only fitting that a second mural in Rochelle would portray historic elements of transportation. With the development of the Lincoln Highway through Rochelle, major transportation arteries crisscrossed helping to make it known as the “Hub City”, an important crossroads for commerce and tourism. The mural is painted in rich sepia tones and designed from a vintage Rochelle postcard that was obtained from Rochelle Tourism, depicting the Chicago and Northwestern Railroads. A striking image of the Rochelle built Partin-Palmer automobile has been expertly added into the mural, along with a full color red, white and blue Lincoln Highway “L” sign.
