Details

The Illinois Lincoln Highway Coalition (ILHC) has developed a series of 16 gazebos & 40 interpretive murals that highlight the development of the historic Lincoln Highway and how it affected the many communities across northern Illinois. The Rochelle gazebo is located on the grounds of the Rochelle Rail Road Park and contains interpretive panels detailing the history of the Lincoln Highway as it passed through Rochelle. The interpretive mural is located in downtown Rochelle at 429 Lincoln Hwy and depicts Emily Post’s stay in Rochelle during her cross country driving trip on the Lincoln Highway.

This project is funded by grant dollars from the Federal Hwy Admin. with support from Ill. Dept. of Transportation and the Illinois Bureau of Tourism. When all the gazebos & murals are installed (2011), a print piece will be developed so that visitors are able to locate them as they travel the Illinois Lincoln Highway corridor.
