The Asa Crook Home, located at 680 East 3rd Street, Prophetstown, IL, was built in 1839 by Whiteside County’s first settler, Asa Crook Sr. The two-story frame house served as an inn, church, school, and Post Office. Crook arrived in Prophetstown in 1834, initially living in a log cabin before building the home. He was also one of the town’s founders when it was laid out in 1838.
The Prophetstown Area Historical Society has preserved and restored the house, which still closely resembles its original form. Although moved from its original spot, it remains on Asa Crook’s land, near the Rock River, where the town’s serene charm endures today.
