Details

The very first gasoline filling station in Rochelle and the first filling station built along the Lincoln Highway in Illinois.

Standard Oil of Indiana acquired this property in 1918 for the grand total of $6,200. It was a perfect site for the filling station due to being on a high visibility corner at a 90 degree turn on the transcontinental Lincoln Highway. This iconic structure has been restored to its original design, including the canopy over the pumps, an original oval Standard Oil sign and the 1918 equipment. This structure also serves as a Visitor Information Center and has Lincoln Highway and filling station memorabilia on display. Hours are Saturday & Sunday 1-5pm or by appointment.
