The story behind the Million Dollar Quartet

“Million Dollar Quartet” is a jukebox musical inspired by a historic recording session that took place on December 4, 1956, at Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee. The recording session brought together four legendary figures in the early days of rock and roll: Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Johnny Cash. This impromptu jam session was famously captured in a photograph, and the musical recreates the atmosphere of that event.

The original musical “Million Dollar Quartet” premiered in 2006 and has since been performed in various theaters worldwide. It features a blend of rock and roll classics from the four iconic musicians and insights into their personal lives and careers. The show provides a glimpse into the birth of rock and roll and these influential artists’ individual styles and personalities.
