Details

This mural is located at 810 Main Street and depicts Ashton’s historic Pavement Jubilee.  Towns along the Illinois Lincoln Highway commemorated their formal opening of the paved roadway with merriment, including downtown decorating, parades, speeches, contests, auto races and even street dancing.  Ashton’s historic special event was a two day celebration honoring their newly paved section of the Lincoln Highway and the town’s new streetlights.  With the mural’s color palette reminiscent of a vintage photograph and highly detailed images of the street festivities, viewers will be transported back in time to join the 1921 Jubilee.  The unique border design of this mural is created to represent and pay tribute to Ashton’s Mills and Petrie Memorial Building.
